Senior DECA members Connor Teget, Peyton Thorell, and Kallie Leiker carry things for the community service project inside. Leiker carries buckets that will be used for the collection at Dillons on Dec. 8.

DECA members are going to sit outside of Dillon’s on Dec. 8 for 11a.m. to 4p.m. to collect donations for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

“We are going to hand out fliers and ask people to go in and buy things for the Ronald McDonald House wish list and then donate those items,” senior Isabelle Braun said.

Their goal is to have at least 75 items donated.

This year their main focus has been on the RMHC wish list and so far this will be their biggest event for it.

“We have recorded radio advertisements that are now playing until Dec. 21 and we are setting up collection stations in the McDonalds of Hays to pick up items that people bring in,” Braun said.

Once they have received all of the donations they will be sending DECA members out to the store to see how much money they would have had to spend on all the items that were donated.

“That’s going to be what we focus on in our paper, the fact that, that’s how much the RDHC would have had to spend if they had not gotten those donations,” Braun said.

Braun looks at this as an opportunity for DECA member to help their community and build relationships with the people in it.

“It’s going to help them in the long run, they are learning how to support their community and support those around them,” Braun said. “It is a way for them to give back especially during the holiday season.”
