The lady Indians basketball team continued their winning streak, while also becoming Western Athletic Conference champions, on Friday, Feb. 28, with a win of 67-23 against Great Bend at home.
The girls finished their regular season completely undefeated at 20-0. On Feb. 14, the lady Indians played against Liberal and won, 65-32, and on Feb. 17, the team won, 60-29, against McPherson. On Feb. 21, not only did the girls win, 63-61, against Garden City, but also senior Molly Martin joined the 1,000 career points club. On Feb. 25, the girls won, 60-15, against Dodge City.
“I thought we were really sharp against Liberal and played with great effort and determination, and the girls were very focused and locked in,” head coach Len Melvin said. “McPherson was a weird game, being on a Monday that we didn’t have school. We didn’t have our best shooting night, but like always, the girls competed hard and played as a team. There are still several scenarios in terms of how the post season will play out. The goal is to be playing our best basketball when the postseason comes around and do our best to make a deep run!”
