Senior Jaren Kanak signs to the University of Oklahoma with his family in the HHS Cafeteria during Pride Time.

Senior Jaren Kanak officially signed on Jan. 12 in the Hays High cafeteria to the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., to play football this upcoming fall.

Kanak is already enrolled at OU, having completed high school after the fall semester.

“There are a ton of benefits to graduating early, besides just getting a head start on my degree,” Kanak said. “Since I’m here, I’m able to get ahead and get started on college workouts and conditioning.”

Kanak had only verbally committed to OU just seven days prior to the signing. Prior to that, he was committed to the University of Clemson from June of 2021, up until he decided to decommit in late December.

“I decommited from Clemson because the coach who I felt I had the best relationship with, Brent Venables, had moved from Clemson to OU,” Kanak said. “It felt right.”
