Senior Wesley Oakley signs his letter of intent to play at MCC this upcoming basketball season.

Senior Wesley Oakley signed his letter of commitment to play basketball for Manhattan Christian College on April 14 in the Hays High cafeteria.

Oakley decided to commit to MCC in early April, which is typically kind of late for a basketball commitment.

“I decided almost right away that MCC was where I wanted to be, but I just couldn’t get it to work with school, so I stayed away for a while,” Oakley said, “but I ended up coming back and officially decided to go there at the end of April.”

Oakley was also able to take an official visit to MCC this past summer on Aug. 12.

“It was a really cool experience,” Oakley said. “Visiting gave me the opportunity to see that school and what day-to-day life is like around there.”

Oakley plans on working toward a dual degree with MCC and Kansas State University in business management and biomedical engineering, along with playing for the MCC basketball team, starting in the 2022-2023 season.

“Having a signing day was one of my biggest goals I’ve had for my athletic career,” Oakley said. “I’m looking forward to meeting new people and being able to compete at the next level.”
