Hays High hosted their home varsity tennis meet on April 11. Six teams competed, including Great Bend, Hays Gold, Hays Maroon, Liberal, Phillipsburg and Trego.

The meet was held as a round robin with six-game sets. Hays Gold placed third overall while Hays Maroon placed fourth overall, however, a variety of athletes placed for medals individually.

Sophomore Henry Fitzthum and senior Ryan Schuckman took first in No. 1 Doubles while playing for Hays Gold. After losing their first match to Liberal, Fitzthum and Schuckman would win four straight, finishing 4-1 on the day. Both Liberal and Trego finished 4-1 as well, but Fitzthum and Schuckman had the largest point differential against their opponents, which put them ahead of the other teams.

Sophomores Carsen Riat and Kaiden Bunger took first while playing No. 2 Doubles for Hays Gold. Riat and Bunger finished 4-1 after winning their first four matches of the day and only losing to Hays Maroon in their final match.

Sophomore Colin Clark placed third while playing No. 1 Singles for Hays Maroon. Clark finished 3-2 on the day, losing against Great Bend and Trego.

Sophomore Will Linenberger placed third while playing No. 2 Singles for Hays Maroon. Linenberger finished the day 3-2, losing against Trego and Phillipsburg.

Seniors Aidan DeBey and Tyler Solida played No. 2 Doubles for Hays Maroon. They finished the day 3-2 and in fourth place.

Sophomore Logan Schmidt and junior Jack Scoby played No. 1 Doubles for Hays Maroon. They finished 1-4 and in fifth place.
