Lady Indians compete in first volleyball tournament of year

Following tryouts that were from Aug. 16-19, on Saturday, Aug. 28, the Hays High varsity volleyball team completed its first tournament of the season at Hays High.

The lady Indians ended up going 3-2 against a total of five teams. They played Wheatland-Grinnell (25-18, 25-17), Scott City (19-25, 21-25), Salina South (20-25, 24-26), Oakley (25-11, 25-20) and Colby (25-18, 19-25, 25-20).

During the game against Colby, the lady Indians had many highlights. Sophomore Laykn Zimmerman had a total of three blocks and one kill. Senior Lauryn Miller had two kills and one block. Senior Kamree Leiker had two aces while sophomore Carly Lang had one. Finally, senior Kenzie Flax had one kill.

“This season, I look forward to winning more games than we did last year,” junior Julia Zimmerman said. “Also, to making the season fun with the team.”
