Girls XC Takes Third at Home Meet

Juniors Grant Brungardt, Connor Cunningham push through the heat to try and defeat other competitors.

The cross country team battled to the finish line at Victoria Sep. 13th to have both boys and girl finish in the top five. Dodge City boys won the meet with 25 points, Garden City took second (34), Olathe North (82) and Hays took fourth with 118 points. Finishing in fifth was Salina Central (120) and Salina South (162). Dodge City girls also took first with 29 points, followed by Garden City (60), Hays (75), Salina South (79), Salina Central (113) and  Olathe North (134).

“This isn’t an easy course to run on,” Assistant Coach Dan Dickerson said. “The weather wasn’t in our favor either, but overall the team battled well. What more could we ask for,” Dickerson said.

The top 15 in 1A-4A, 5A-6A were given medals. Finishing in 5th in the 5A-6A class was Landri Dotts. Claire Shippy took 13th and Yesenia Maldonado took 15th.

“I think we all competed well and ran hard on the not so easy course,” Dotts said.
