Girl tennis places first at first varsity meet

The girl’s tennis team started their season off placing first as a team with a 14-3 score at their first varsity tennis meet in Cimarron on Aug. 23.

Starting with singles, #1 singles, Kayleigh Ashbaugh placed 1st with a 4-0 score.

“It was fun to get back into the swing of things and it was good to start the season with a win,” Hansen said. “It was also good with teams, doubles, to get used to playing with each other and learning from each other.”

Following Cimarron, the girls headed up to compete against Wichita Collegiate on Aug. 25.

Overall team score, 6-10

#1 singles, Ashbaugh with a 1-4 score.

With their first home meet on Aug. 30, the team gave a first place performance ending with a 15-4 score.

#1 singles, Ashbaugh with a 2-2 score, placing 3rd.

#2 singles, Hansen with a 3-1 score, placing 2nd.

#1 doubles, Forinash and Isbell with a 3-0 score, placing 1st.

#2 doubles, Speier and Trinity Quint with a 3-1 score, placing 2nd.

Coming out with good scores, the tennis team is out for a successful season.

“So far this year we’ve seen a variety of competition,” Coach Curtis Renz said. “We competed at Cimarron, it was about 2 or 3A schools. We placed first as a team there, so they were kind of lower in the competition level. But we went to Wichita Collegiate and they’re like top competition so we’ve seen low and high, we haven’t seen ours. We haven’t seen WAC competitions yet.”
