The boys basketball team move to a record of 5-0 after a 62-52 win over Junction City.

Both teams started off strong with Hays trailing by two at the end of the first quarter 19-17.

Hays came out in the second quarter with a 13-0 run to take a 32-21 lead and finished the half with a score of 35-27 in favor of Hays.

Hays hit six of eight three-pointers in the first half.

Junction City cut Hays’ lead to one by starting the second half with seven unanswered points to make it 35-34.

Hays pulled away again by scoring seven points to take a 45-36 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Hays had a double-digit lead with six minutes left in the game, but Junction City cut the lead to within four, with only three minutes left in the game.

In the last three minutes Hays went on a 12-6 run to secure the 62-52 win over Junction City Blue Jays.

“It’s very tough to play against the physical presence of Junction City,” sophomore Trey McCrae said. “They are very athletic and fast. Their ability makes them tough to guard.”
