Junior Trey McCrae tees up in a meet during his freshman year. McCrae is on the 2018 golf team as well.

After handily winning regionals the week before, the boys golf team kept things rolling their way as they claimed the Class 4A state tournament championship on May 24 at the Bentwood Golf Course in Ulysses.

The team finished with a 312, three strokes better than Rose Hill with a 315 and Wichita Collegiate with a 318. Other team scores were Wamego 323, Chanute 332, Andover Central 341, Kansas City Piper 346, Buhler 350, Coffeyville Field Linley 363, Goodland 364, and DeSoto 367.

Freshman Tradgon McCrae led the way with a three-over 75 enroute to a fifth-place finish. McCrae had ended up in a three-way tie for third place in regulation, but finished third in the playoff.

Senior Payton Ruder shot a 77 for ninth place, while junior Justin McCullick and sophomore Allen Zollinger also earned all-state medalist honors as both fired an 18-hole total of 80 and finished in 20th place. Sophomore Peyton Kieffer and freshman Josh Norris were also part of the state team and shot a 91 and 93, respectively.
