Lady Indians soccer heads to state quarterfinals

The Lady Indians soccer team has advanced to state quarterfinals after playing in Towanda. The Lady Indians defeated Circle 2-1. Junior Sydney Sulzman scored the two goals for the Indians, one in each half of the game.

Sulzman shot her first goal just 30 minutes after the start and Circle retaliated with a goal by Jill McCoy. Sulzman struck yet again at the beginning of the second half, giving Hays the lead. Circle attempted to make a comeback later on in the match, but they were unable to keep up with the Indians.

The Lady Indians, who are now 11-6, will face the Trinity Academy Knights on May 24 in Wichita. The Knights have outscored their first two opponents 21-0 and gained a 10-0 win over Buhler on May 19.

Junior Courtney Molleker said the team is really happy to have gotten as far as they have this season.

“We’re so excited,” Molleker said. “We’ve really come together as both a team and a family just to get this far.”
