The boys basketball team ended up in second place after dropping a 45-32 decision in the championship finals of the Hays City Shootout on Dec. 6.
Things started well for the Indians as they jumped out to a 15-10 first quarter lead, but watched their lead turn into a 22-19 deficit after the Eagle went on a 12-4 second quarter run.

After the break, the two team essentially traded points in the third quarter before the Eagles went on a 10-2 in the final period to secure the 13-point win.

Isaiah Nunnery led the Indians with 10 points, followed by Brady Werth with nine and Keith Dryden with eight. Rounding out the scoring were Cash Hobson with three and Shane Berens with two.

In earlier rounds, the Indians cruised to a 65-53 win over DeSoto in the first round on Dec. 4 and then followed that with a 54-50 win over Great Bend.

Against DeSoto, the Indians took a 24-15 halftime lead and never looked back, outscoring DeSoto by a 41-38 margin in the final two quarters.

Hobson led the scoring with 18 points, followed by Nunnery and Dryden with 16 and 10, respectively. Berens and Werth added nine and eight points each, while Laken Jacob tossed in two. Rounding out the scoring were Maddux Winter and Xander Swayne with one each.

In the Great Bend game, Nunnery had 15 and Werth had 13 to lead the Indians to the four-point win. Hobson and Berens tossed in nine apiece, while Dryden had four and Swayne and Dylan Davis contributed two each.

The Indians took a 10-6 first quarter lead and increased it to 23-17 at the half. After the break, Great Bend put together a 15-10 run to pull within one point, 33-32. Hays put the game away in the final quarter, outscoring the Panthers, 21-18.
