Tennis takes third at home meet

The girls varsity tennis team took third out of five teams at their home meet on Sep. 5.

The other teams there were Norton, Victoria, Colby and Russell.

The singles players played at the city courts and the doubles teams played at the high school courts.

Senior Julie Balzer took second place in number one singles with a 2-2 mark. Sophomore Brooke Forinash played number two singles and remained undefeated all day to take first place.

The double teams both took third place at this meet.

Seniors Molly Barnett and Kelsee DeBoer played number one doubles and ended with a 1-2 mark.

Juniors Ashley Cossaart and Emily McPherson played number two doubles and ended with a 2-2 mark. They had long games and won both tie-breakers against Colby and Victoria.

“I made a few mistakes and there are things I still need to work on but I think we still did pretty well,” junior Emily McPherson said.
