Golfers place second at Hays Invitational

Sophomore Taylor Deboer and junior Lexie Schaben both came away with top 10 finishes to help lead Hays to a second-place team finish at the Hays Invitational on Sept. 3 at Smoky Hills Country Club.

Deboer finished third with a nine-hole total of 46, while Schaben ended up in eighth with a 51. The low round of the day came from Abbi Shaddix of Garden City who carded a 34.

As a team, Hays finished with a total of 206, well behind first-place finisher Garden City with 177. Dodge City was 10 strokes behind in third place with a 216, followed by Great Bend and Salina Central, both with a 222.

Other team scores were Hutchinson, 224; Salina South, 243; TMP-Marian, 248; and Liberal, 248.

Individually for Hays, freshman Katie Brungardt ended with a 54, followed by junior Elissa Jensen with a 55. Freshman Rhian Patterson and junior Macie Mayo finished with a 60 and 61, respectively.

The next action for the golfers will be at Salina Central on Sept. 10
