The boys soccer team defeated class 5A third ranked McPherson Bullpups 3-2 in the semi-finals of the McPherson Invitational.
Junior Kellen Griffin got the scoring started early on in the first half on a volley off of a pass from junior Ethan For-t to make the score 1-0.
McPherson then scored twice in the first half to go up 2-1 at half time.
In the second half sophomore Jordan Windholz scored his first goal of the season off of a through ball from Griffin.
Halfway through the second half Fort scored on a header after junior Cody Brown had a long thow-in into the box.
Hays then held on to the 3-2 lead for the victory.
“We played fantastic the second half and played together as a team,” Fort said. “I thought we played with desire and passion in the second half.”
The boys soccer team plays in the championship game against Maize South on Saturday at 2 p.m. as it tries to win the McPherson Invitational for the third year in a row.
