Varsity boys left with two individual placers from regionals at Newton.
Senior Seth Tophoj and senior Eli Fort finished in second and seventh with times of 16:54 and 17:55.
The other varsity runners were freshman Kendall Kandt (19:00), junior Dallas Kaiser (19:04), sophomore Joshua Brungardt (19:38), senior Danny Mulkey (19:56) and sophomore Alec Webb (20:14). The boys missed placing to go to state as a team by eight points. Tophoj and Fort qualified individually though.
Alternates for the team were senior Ky Scheibler and sophomore Blake Mathews.
Varsity girls took second qualifying for state as a team.
Senior Bailey Zimmerman took third with a time of 16:26.
The other varsity runners were sophomore April Johnson (18:00), freshman Wendy Zimmerman (18:04), senior Kelli Oppliger (18:12), junior Paige Lunsford (18:24), and freshmen Shelby Matlock (18:37) and Reagan Kaiser (18:56). The girls won second place by one point against Newton.
Alternates for the team were sophomores Kylee Filley and Kaitlin Gulley.
“We saved our best meet of the year for the most important date,” coach Jerold Harris said.
