Valentine’s Day: Not just for couples

Valentines Day: Not just for couples

Valentine’s Day is the day when you have two extremes of people: The people who love it and the people who hate it. And the reasons are almost always the same. The people who love it are usually the ones who are in a relationship and everything is happy fluffy love butterflies and the people who hate it are those who are single and wish for that company from a significant other.

But sorry to break it to you people, Valentine’s Day is more than happiness or tragedy and it’s meant for everyone, no matter if you’re in a romantic relationship or not. Let me explain.

I actually heard this idea from a friend of mine which gave me a totally new perspective on Valentine’s Day and I hope that this will change yours as well.

Valentine’s Day is pin pointed towards lovers, specifically romantically, so yes I will not deny the holiday’s original meaning. But what my friend explained to me was that it’s not a day just for couples. It’s a day to celebrate everyone you love.

Everyone. That means family, friends, teachers, whoever you care for! It’s a day of love, with the ability to share love to everyone no matter who it is or how you show that. So that could mean giving a long due hug, giving material items, or spending your time with the people you love.

And if you see or know someone who’s lonely, just being in someone’s company on Valentine’s Day can help make that particular person feel less lonely on the day that’s most often perceived as a depressing day if you’re without companionship.

So basically all I’m saying is to not treat Valentine’s Day as a couple holiday, but rather about celebrating how much you love others and those who are close to you. Be in each other’s company and give lots of hugs and let them know how much they mean to you.

If you see someone alone, don’t let them be because most likely they will want company of some sort on this day filled with companionship. Make sure they know that there’s someone that took the time out of their day to really spend some time with them.
