Journalism attends Kansas Scholastic Press Association conference

For the first time since the fall of 2019, the Kansas Scholastic Press Association held its Fall Conferences in September and October on the campuses of Fort Hays State University, the University of Kansas and Wichita State University.

Hays High School news and yearbook staffs attended the Fall Conference hosted by FHSU on Sept. 26. The FHSU conference held a keynote session from 9:00 a.m. to 9:40 a.m., with the keynote speaker being David Condos of High Plains Public Radio.

Following the keynote, students selected three different presentations during the three break-out sessions, for which Session 1 was from 9:55 a.m. to 10:40 a.m., Session 2 was from 10:50 a.m. to 11:35 a.m. and Session 3 was from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. During the sessions, presenters, which included media professionals and journalism advisers, discussed careers in journalism, tips for design, photography and writing and other journalism topics.

“I learned how to better capture different events and have better coverage of topics,” sophomore yearbook member Marisa Wasinger said.
