Choir and Orchestra take state KMEA students to Wichita

On Feb. 24-25, students who qualified for the Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) state groups went to Wichita.

Orchestra students included senior Kiersten Goertzen and senior Sydney Wittkorn, and choir students included junior Anthony Arial, freshman Jordan Aschenbrenner, senior Carson Brooksher, junior Kiki Gonzales, sophomore Nate Henderson, junior Devlyn Jochum and senior Sam Vesper.

Students rehearsed all day on Thursday, Feb. 24 and Friday, Feb. 25, then performed their music on the night of the Feb. 25.

“The orchestra played ‘Marche Slave’ and ‘1812 Overture,’ both by the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky,” Wittkorn said. “I really like both of the songs a lot.”
