Students attend a Student Council meeting in the Lecture Hall.

On Wednesday, March 2, Student Council held a meeting in the Lecture Hall during PRIDE Time. During the meeting, the application process to run for a StuCo position was discussed.

Students who wish to be one of next year’s StuCo executive officers or class officers must fill out an application and turn in a letter of recommendation to co-sponsor Luke Lundmark. Applications and letters of recommendation are due on March 21.

After turning in the application and letter of recommendation, campaign speeches will be held on April 6-7 during PRIDE Time in the Lecture Hall. Voting will take place on April 7-8.

Only students who will be seniors next year are eligible to run for one of the StuCo executive officer positions which include president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and public relations liaison. Any student can run for one of the class officer positions, which includes either president or vice president of the sophomore, junior or senior classes.

Many of the students who are current class officers will attempt to be reelected for a StuCo position next year. Junior Hannah Eikenberry plans to run for president of StuCo.

“Throughout my three years as a Student Council officer, I have tried my hardest to advocate for my classmates and learned a lot in the process,” Eikenberry said. “If I am elected to an executive position, I will use the platform to act as a voice for the student body of Hays High School.”
