On Tuesday, Nov. 30, Hays High School’s varsity and junior varsity Scholars Bowl teams took part in the Ellinwood High School meet.

The varsity team consisted of their junior captain Evan Dealy, as well as senior Liahna Hyatt, junior Tony Arial, junior Brayden Dreher and sophomore Henry Fitzthum. The JV team was made up of junior captain Darian Dodd-Spencer, sophomore Everett McClure, freshman Brett Dreher, freshman Peter Hyatt, freshman Caleb King and freshman John Weisenborn.

Both teams took first place in their respective sections of the meet, bringing home medals.

“I am very, very proud of my team; we had some really good successes,” Liahna Hyatt said. “We beat a few teams by 100 points.”

While they celebrate their success, the team also look towards the future.

“I am ready to go to state,” Liahna Hyatt said. “This is my senior year, so it’s make it or break it. We have a really great team, and our stars are only starting to shine brighter.”

The team will end 2021 with a JV meet at Salina South on Dec. 14 and pick back up on Jan. 17 with a varsity meet at Scott City. Regionals will take place on Feb. 3 at a location yet to be announced.
