Spirit club members participate in voting for dress up night for the home football game Sept. 3.

Spirit Club held its first meeting of the year Wednesday, Aug. 25 in the Lecture Hall.
Sponsors Lindsay Hart and Laura Jensen started the meeting by introducing the club and explaining why meetings were not held last year.
“Spirit Club meetings weren’t held last year due to COVID-19 and the restrictions put in place for large group meetings,” Hart said. “So, in place of the typical large Spirit Club, my Project Management class acted as Spirit Club.”
Sign up for officer and class positions were on Jensen’s door the rest of the week.
On Tuesday, Aug. 31, Spirit Club met in the Multi-Purpose Room to vote on officers.
Elected officers and class positions are all as follows:
President: senior Landri Dotts
Vice-president: senior Alex Johnson
Secretary: senior Emry Lundy
Director of Communications: senior Alexandra Coveney
Senior Class Representatives: Ashlynn Flax and Brenna Schwien
Junior Class Representatives: Lily Biggs and Katie Dinkel
Sophomore Class Representatives: Evyn Cox and Hailey Klein
Freshman Class Representatives: Riley Dreher and Isabelle Jones
Jensen was also introduced as the new Spirit Club co-sponsor.
“I am excited to be co-sponsoring the Spirit Club,” Jensen said. “I feel like it’s a great opportunity to connect with students, and with their help and leadership, we can help promote school spirit and bring awareness to all the great sports and clubs HHS has to offer.”
Hart and Jensen then discussed the Thursday, Sept. 2 pep assembly, and collectively, members brainstormed games for the assembly. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the assembly was canceled.
“We hope to have more pep assemblies than last year and create other fun activities for students to get more involved in supporting all of our activities and athletics,” Hart said. “Being able to have a bigger group brings in more ideas and involvement.”
Spirit Club members then voted on a theme for the upcoming home football games and decided on a safari theme for the Sept. 3 game and White Out for the Sept. 10 game.
“I look forward to seeing the students having fun and engaging with one another during the activities,” Jensen said.
With new members and officers and an added sponsor, Hart said she looks forward to this year’s Spirit Club activities.
“I’m excited to get the new group of club members thinking of and planning ideas to promote school spirit,” Hart said. “I’m also excited to have Laura Jensen join forces with me as co-sponsor. She will be a huge asset to have helping work with Spirit Club.”
