The local Special Olympics branch participates in seven different sports and attends around 14 tournaments per year.

There are about two tournaments for each sport every year. One tournament is held in town each year and that is a basketball tournament in March.

The head of the local Special Olympics Branch, Brent Kaiser, organizes the practices and the local tournament in March. Volunteer coaches help out with practice every week.

“There are usually two tournaments per sport, so we travel out of town for around 13 tournaments a year,” Kaiser said.

Practice is held once a week on Wednesdays and around 30-40 people attend practice each week. There are currently 15 kids that participate at the high school level.

“I’m the one who organizes it pretty much, and then there are several volunteer coaches that help me out with everything,” Kaiser said.
