High school students work for local businesses after school hours

Encouraged by the thought of being able to spend money on items without necessity, high school students may decide to get a job. However, the easiest job to get could be from your parents.

Sophomore Avery Jones has begun working with her father at his office, Cedar Lodge Dental.

She works over the summers, along with her activities, such as cheerleading and competitive dance.

Other than her father, Jones works with her uncle, another dentist at the office and her step mother, who is the anesthesiologist at the dentistry.

“I do sterilization, so all I do is clean all the instruments my dad uses,” Jones said. “Sometimes I help at the front desk.”

Some students work alongside their parents at side jobs. Sophomore Zoe Buffington’s mother is a high school teacher, but Buffington helps her mother at the Ellis County Fairgrounds doing event cleaning.

“It is actually pretty nice because it is just my mother, not some boss, some adult that I do not know,” Buffington said. “I don’t have to worry so much about if I am doing something right or not.”

Buffington said she does not worry much about getting fired, alongside the legal action that would go along with having a job at her age.

Freshman Addie Braun works at her parent’s business, Otter Juice Company.

“My older sister, my friend, and my boyfriend all work with me,” Braun said. “It is good for me, because if I need a ride I can just ask them to take me.”
